What is Drontal?
Drontal is a prescription medication used to remove tapeworms, hookworms and large roundworms in cats and kittens.

Who is it for?
Drontal is for cats and kittens over one month of age or weighing more than 1.5 pounds.

- Half a tablet per 2kg bodyweight;
- 1 tablet per 4kg bodyweight;
- 1 and a half tablets per 6kg bodyweight.What are the benefits?

* An effective prescription approach to remove intestinal tapeworms, hookworms, and roundworms in cats

* Tablets are sized and scored for easy administration to cats or kittens

* Can be given directly by mouth or with food for easy administration

How does Drontal work?
Drontal contains the active ingredients praziquantel and pyrantel pamoate. These ingredients work by causing spasms and paralysis of the parasites. The parasite is either completely destroyed in the intestine or passed through your pet's stool by natural processes.

Is there a generic equivalent available?
No, not in this combination.

How is it given?
Drontal tablets are given by mouth. Tablets may be crumbled and mixed with a small amount of food. Be sure the cat eats all of the food. Give Drontal exactly as directed by the veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving this medication, contact your veterinarian.

This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.

What results can I expect?
Drontal eliminates tapeworms, hookworms and roundworms in the intestinal tracts of cats and kittens. It may take several days of treatment to see the full effect of the medication. Drontal will only kill the adult worms that are present. It will not prevent reinfection.

What form(s) does it come in?
Drontal is available in chewable tablets and injection form.

More Information

What should I discuss with my veterinarian while considering Drontal?
Talk to your veterinarian about what type of outcome is expected. Have your veterinarian explain the other treatment options that may be available to treat your pet's condition.

Consult your veterinarian or physician on how to prevent human infection and reinfection of your pet since some intestinal parasites may be zoonotic (able to infect humans).

Tell your veterinarian if your pet could be pregnant.

Notify your veterinarian of any other medications or supplements your pet is taking. Also if your pet has had any reactions to previous medications.

What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.

What is the most important information I should know?
Give Drontal exactly as your veterinarian prescribes. Take preventive measures, as described by your veterinarian, to prevent reinfection or retreatment will be necessary.

Who should not take it?
Not for use in animals who are hypersensitive (allergic) to it. Unless authorized by your veterinarian, do not use in kittens less than one month of age or weighing less than 1.5 pounds.

What side effects may be seen when taking Drontal?
May see salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, incoordination, or loss of appetite. If you see any of these signs, contact your veterinarian.

How is it stored?
Store in a tight, light-resistant, childproof container at room temperature. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

What should I do if I know of or suspect there has been an overdose?
If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any of these signs in your pet, contact your veterinarian immediately.

What should I avoid when giving my pet Drontal?
Some intestinal parasites may be zoonotic (able to infect humans). Consult your veterinarian or physician on how to prevent human infection and reinfection of your pet.
